AWANA Kickoff: There will be a mandatory AWANA Workers Meeting on Wednesday, September 8th in the Ministry Center. This meeting will begin at the conclusion of our Wednesday worship service. All workers need to attend this meeting to obtain important information regarding our 2010-2011 AWANA year. If you are interested in working in our AWANA Ministry, see Pastor Mike Mckinney.

September 6, 2010 – Dealing With Distractions

“Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. “ — 1 Corinthians 9:26

In first-century track competitions, each runner would be assigned to a lane on the track. Each was expected to stay in his assigned lane. In the same way, as you and I run the race of life, our competition is not with other believers. Rather, our competition is with our enemies, who are the world, the flesh, and the devil.

The goal is not to outrun someone else. The goal is to outrun those wicked influences that could bring us down. You might justify your slow pace by pointing to other people still running behind you. True. But there are probably some people ahead of you too. You are not to concern yourself with who is behind you or who is ahead of you. You are to run the race before you.

We are each called to run our own race. An incident from the life of Peter illustrates this truth. After Peter had been restored to the Lord following His denial, Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” Then the Lord proceeded to tell Peter how his life would end. As they were talking, Peter noticed another disciple, John, was walking behind them. Peter asked, “What about him, Lord?” (John 21:21).

Are you more worried about the others in the race than you are about yourself? Remember that God has not called us to run someone else’s race.

Ladies Fall Tea: September 11th from 2pm to 4pm. Mrs. Betty Rushing will be the guest speaker. The theme for this ministry event will be “Blooming Where You Are Planted”. Tickets are $5 each and are on sale now at the church office or in the Ministry Center after our services.

Men’s Ministry Blood Drive: September 14th in the Ministry Center from 2:30 to 6:45. Signup sheet will be posted on August 29th.

Men’s Ministry Prayer Breakfast: September 18th at 8am in the Ministry Center.

Fall Bible Conference: Make plans now to join us on September 19th through the 24th for our Annual Fall Bible Conference. We will be blessed to have the preaching of Dr. Stan Frye, Dr. Larry Pearson, Dr. Phil Hoskins. We will kick off our week with a concert by the Mike Speck Trio during our normal Sunday School time on September 19th. We will conclude our week with a gospel concert by Mercy’s Well on Friday the 24th. In between we will experience the preaching of three dynamic men of God. Join us this week for a time of revival and refreshing.

Mike Speck Concert: To kick off our Fall Bible Conference, we will have the Mike Speck trio with us in concert during our normal Sunday School hour on September 19th. Mercy’s Well in Concert: At the conclusion of our Fall Bible Conference, we will have the Southern Gospel group Mercy’s Well with us on Friday, September 24th at 6:30pm. To read their biography, click here. You can also learn more about Mercy’s Well at www.mercyswell.com.

Praise & Picnic in the Park: Join us for Praise & Picnic in the Park on Sunday afternoon, September 26th @ 4:00. This is a church wide event and everyone is welcome to come out to Claremont Park, located here. We will have a time of food and fellowship, followed by a worship service at the amphitheater.

2010 Jubilee Conference: For the 2nd year, our Psalm 71 Ministry for ages 55 and over will make the worthwhile trip to Gatlinburg for the 2010 Jubilee Conference. We will depart from the church on September 27th, and return on September 29th. During this special time, we will be blessed by an unbelievable collection of Gospel musicians and Bible preachers.
